SIZZLE SIZZLE

What a day of racing on Saturday with big events all over North America - how about Santa Anita Handicap day out west? Only 3 horses on the 100+ horse card can be claimed?
Some notes about tomorrow's races:

HUTCHESON S. , 3yo, Race 7- Canadian bred REATA'S ROCKET (Cape Canaveral - Selborne) can improve but the field is loaded with Out of Gwedda and 2 others from Todd Pletchers barn. Pletcher has won 4 consecutive Hutchesons. Yikes.

RICHTER SCALE S. - A 7 furlong sprint at Gulfstream, race 9, with some serious bears in it. Canadian-bred SLAM BAMMY (Grand Slam - Miss Heidi, by Nureyev) has the rail post for his first 7 furlng test. Trainer Joe Orseno said the $250,000 earner could race in Dubai if he does well tomorrow. Too bad the competion includes the undefeated HALF OURS from the....you guessed it, Todd Pletcher barn.

FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH - All will be watching NOBIZ LIKE SHOBIZ, he sure is a beauty but he can hardly be considered a cinch in the 9 furlong event. No surprise if he wins and his west coast opponent STORMELLO reportedly had just an awful and long trip from the coast to Florida. What about DRUMS OF THUNDER? He ran well behind a slow pace when behidn Biz last time.

SANTA ANITA HANDICAP - I have apologized before for comments on this site about LAVA MAN, not that I think he's not top notch but then they start mentioning John Henry with him, I get queasy. He's strictly a Californina dude and is not a sure thing tomorrow in the Big Cap. It's a good field and this corner is tabbing AWESOME GEM as the winner!

LOOK AT THIS ONE AT TAMPA

Might not get to see the Tampa Bay races tomorrow (with so much other stuff going on you probably won't miss it) but in a $12,500 maiden claiming event, GOLDEN PRANCER makes his debut. So?
Well, he's a Seeking the Gold - Classic Reign (a former Sam-Son Farms mare), by Vice Regent colt bought for $250,000 as a yearling. Ouch.

Hi, I do more of a news roundup for gambling issues that affect Canada, but since I live in Southern Ontario and my passion is horse racing, most of links and bias has to do with Ontario horse racing.

Feel free to check it out.

Cards like tomorrows Big 'Cap day make me truely proud of California racing. There's a lot of rough spots out here, like a horse shortage, incompetence in racings regulating body, and competition from racinos and Indian Gaming. But, it really feels good to hold up this day and say this is the kind of racing that California stands for.
