11:15 (Race 4) Eclipse Award winning sprinter THOR’S ECHO, winner of the Breeders’ Cup Sprint, is in the ‘Al Simaal’ at ‘about’ 6 furlongs, a straightaway. Interesting entrant in the race is TERRIFIC CHALLENGE, who last start was at Woodbine in the Nearctic Stakes on Canadian International day last October. Terrific Challenge is an American-bred by Royal Academy. He also raced at Woodbine last April when beaten a head by Dave the Knave under the care of Mike Doyle.
12:15 – There is nothing hush-hush about DISCREET CAT (Forestry – Pretty Discreet), who has never been beaten and has looked stunning in his races. He’s 6 for 6 and his last 3 Beyer Figures from his North American starts are 116 from the Cigar Mile, 115 from the Jerome ‘Cap and 112 from an allowance/optional claiming. This race is the ‘about’ 1 mile Birj Nahaar, usually a prep for the Goldolphin Mile but the Cat's prep for the Dubai World Cup.
Race 8 is the final event of the evening and the Maktoum Challenge, the local prep for the Mar. 31 Dubai World Cup. Former California handicap horse CHOCTAW NATION is in the field.

WANDO’S FIRST ONTARIO FOAL
The first reported foal by Canadian Triple Crown winner and Horse of the Year WANDO was born last week at Gus Schickedanz’s Schonberg Farm in Schomberg. The chestnut filly is out of stakes winner SILENT COURSE.
RUNAWAY GROOM PENSIONED AT 28
Gardiner Farms-bred RUNAWAY GROOM, one of Canada’s most accomplished thoroughbreds has been retired from stud duty after siring over 1,000 foals of racing age, 674 winners, 70 stakes winners and the earners of over $53 million.
Runaway Groom is best known for his stunning upset in the 1982 Travers Stakes at Saratoga when he charged past Kentucky Derby winner Gate del Sol, Preakness winner Aloma’s Rulers and Belmont Stakes winner Conquistador Cielo.
The grey son of Blushing Groom – Yonnie Girl also won two-thirds of the Canadian Triple Crown – the Prince of Wales and Breeders’ Stakes – and probably should have won the whole series. The colt was 2nd in the Queen’s Plate behind the lone-speed runner, Son of Briartic.
Runaway Groom is the sire dirt horses and grassers including top class runners Cherokee Run, Najran, Down the Aisle and Wekiva Springs. He stood at Vinery in Lexington since 1991.

Love the new layout Jen.
The shot of Woodbine in your header makes me homesick for Toronto.

By the way Pipers Thunder is out of the 8th. Looks like Barbican is well spotted.
