'SLEW WORKS FAST; ODDS OUT THIS A.M.

Champion 3-year-old colt of 2007 SHILLELAGH SLEW was set down a bit more in a workout yesterday morning at Palm Meadows in Florida, speeding four furlongs in :47 4/5, tied for the 3rd fastest of the morning. The son of Chief Seattle - Frippalina is trained by Mike DePaulo and the colt won his 2006 debut at Woodbine before compiling stakes wins in Ontario and in western Canada.

QUEEN'S PLATE WINTERBOOK OUT TODAY

Woodbine Entertainment will release the 84th (!) edition of the Queen's Plate Winterbook Odds this morning for the 148th Queen's Plate on June 24 at Woodbine. The Plate, at 1 1/4 miles for Canadian-bred 3yo's, is the first leg of the Canadian Triple Crown.
Stay tuned to this site for the full report later this morning.

TILLER CHARGES BUSY

Sovereign Award winning trainer Robert Tiller is typically out in full force early in the spring with his horses and 2007 is no different. Yesterday on the Woodbine training track, Tiller's stakes winners ARE YOU SERIOUS and TWISTED WIT had quick preps of :48 3/5 for four furlongs. The same time was clocked by a Tiller Plate eligible, ASCOT DANCER.
The bullet of the day, which was faster than all 4 furlong preps by almost 2 seconds, went to last year's impressive maiden winner from trainer Noel Randall's barn, KAMBOO MAN.
Perennial leading trainer SID ATTARD gave his Plate hopeful, JIGGS COZZ, winner of the Display Stakes last year, an easy 3 furlong breeze for his first prep of the spring.

SORRY CANDY

Blame it on the internet! Okay, blame it on the author who somehow managed to drop CANDY BOX (Running Stag - Miners Mirage, by Mining) from the HOT CANADIAN-BRED LIST. The filly won the Stormy Krissy Stakes at Aqueduct last month with a 95 Beyer Figure.
Candy Box is owned and bred by Stronach Stables.
Speaking of Stronach and Adena Springs, the farm's 6th annual 2yo in training sale catalogue is an impressive book.
Siblings to Candy Box, SUGAR SHAKE, SOARING FREE, and MALAKOFF are among the 141 entrants.

MONKEY BIZ

The BLOOD-HORSE reported that THE GREEN MONKEY is still hanging out at Ashford Stud in Kentucky recovering from a muscle injury in his hind end that he suffered last summer. The $16 million 2yo purchase (I was there that day, it was wild stuff!) has had only a few workouts and has yet to race.
