JUNGLE LOVE
Ah, what a great game it is if you not only love the horses and the competition, but also the betting! And a whole lot of luck goes a long way. Sam-Son Farms' QUIET JUNGLE, tabbed as one of the farm's most promising runners for 2007, made a thoroughly professional debut yesterday at Fair Grounds at 1 mile: she raced 3 wide most of the way in mid-pack, rallied steadily, came inside the leader who bore out off the last turn and then surged to the lead. Alas, she was nailed right on the wire by another filly - curses!
But wait! The winner was deemed to have come over many paths and interfere with fillies through the stretch so Quiet Jungle (Forest Wildcat - Split the Arrow) was placed first, paying a handsome $11.80.
And be ready, Sam-Son has more fillies on the horizon ready to debut.
THANKS FOR THE LETTERS!
Recent comments from readers include another note on Emma-Jayne Wilson vs. Chantal Sutherland, who apparently is returning to Woodbine to ride this year and is getting a lot more press than one could imagine. A thread on the forum LET IT RIDE has had some 40 posts on her return to Woodbine, some flattering, some not.
THOROUGHBLOG received another comment about Sutherland under the posting SUNSHINE MAKES US HAPPY (more people would see your comments folks if you put them under the most recent posting!).
Anthony writes to us under REVVING AND MARCHING and his note is very much appreciated.
MARCHFIELD BLED
The A.P. Indy - Pico Teneriffe colt MARCHFIELD, owned and bred by Eugene Melnyk and trained by Mark Casse, bled significantly (through Lasix) in his latest maiden outing at Gulfstream, said Casse yesterday from Florida. The colt will return to Woodbine soon to regroup with a chance at the Queen's Plate. Casse said SEALY HILL, who has been "working up a storm" in Ocala, is headed to the Bourbonette Stakes at Turfway Park on March 24. Casse will also start Kentucky bred APPROVAL RATING in the Lane's End Stakes against early Plate favourite TWILIGHT METEOR.
Casse also has high hopes for Canadian-bred SEASIDE LINKS, who is not eligible for the Plate currently but is likely to be supplemented in May at the next payment.
WOODBINE WANTS YOUR VOTES!
Will CATCH THE THRILL win the Woodbine Oaks? Will the Todd Pletcher-trained TWILGIHT METEOR win the Plate?
Woodbine racing fans should check out the track's microsites for the Labatt Woodbine Oaks and Queen's Plate (see links to the right) for the latest on the big races, the current Top 10 hopefuls and your opinion on who will win the big events.

POOR TASTE ALERT!
The ONION, which satires everyday events and is essentially, ,completely ridiculous but on occasion, funny, says BARBARO may have fakes his own death. Sensitive folks should not check this link that was sent to THOROUGHBLOG by a reader.

Here I go posting where all can see.. this is in reference to the very rudly written cooment on homely female jockeys at Woodbine. Take the blinkers off and pay attention to talent and not looks! If your a true horse racing fan you wouldn't have even made that comment. It's people like you who prove Chantal's comments on being good looking not working for her at Woodbine. Grow up and watch the races not how good looking or not you think people are. NONE of the female riders at Woodbine are ugly. Take a good long look at yourself buddy!

Editor's Note: Amen to above comment regarding the Chantel nonsense. As one who regards riders as 20% of the racing puzzle, I can't imagine anyone caring what riders look like.

All the female riders at Woodbine are trained and need to get on live mounts as well as any other jockey to hit the winners circle.By the way all the female riders have class and are pretty. They just need some good mounts.

Chantal looked pretty good sitting on my filly October 25 ($99.60 to win) so I'm not complaining. Her main asset, in my book, is that she genuinely loves horses and is not miserable when they lose (maybe a little miserable if the trainer/owner is closeminded and unwilling to "think outside the box")and she has a great sense of timing and light hands. What more could you ask for? Right attitude and right hands. I hope she stays this way well into her 30s and never loses her optimism and love for what she's doing. When and if she does (lose this great attitude) she'll be just like the rest: closed minded, unprofessional and miserable. Tinker, tailor, soldier, sailor; if your attitude is bad everything you do will "suck". Keep it up Sunshine.
