SATURDAY STUFF

Tight schedule for yours truly today/Sat. morning so just some notes about what is going on...

SUGAR SWIRL, a resident on the THOROUGHBLOG Hot Canadian-bred list, is in very, very tough in the Sabin H.-G3 tomorrow at Gulfstream. The Touch Gold - Astrapi, by Distinctive Pro won her 2007 opener at GP at 1 mile (83 Beyer) but was fading and now she meets gals like Oonagh McCool, Swap Fliparoo, etc.

WILLARD STRAIGHT, a classy old guy, makes his first start for Canadian barn TUCCI STABLES tomorrow in the final event for $62,500 claiming. Not sure whether he'll get grass, however.

STUART HYMAN'S promising colt TYCOON DOBY (Cherokee Run - Mareseille Express, by Caerleon) will be heavily favoured in the 3rd at Santa Anita. Thw Triple Crown nominee ran a 92 Beyer Figure 2nd time out. He is Kentucky-bred but of course, Canadian owned.

TOP TEN LIST (Bold Executive - Pick Ten) is in the Endeavor Breeders Cup Stakes, $125,000, at Tampa at 1 1/16 miles on the turf. Recently sold at auction by Frank DiGiulio and Robert Tiller, the filly is now owned by John Crane and trained by Michael Trombetta. She is a stakes winner in Ontario.

THREE IN THE BAG seems to have resurrected himself. The (Silver Deputy - Light Show) gelding, a 5yo, is in a $75,000 optional claimer at AQU tomorrow with a win and a third in 2 strats this year. He was 2nd in the Plate Trial 2 years ago and 9th in the Plate to Wild Desert.
Of course, the Queen's Plate has been one of the weakest races in Canada in several years based on winning Beyer Figures and how the horses have done since then.
