Ambitious Arravale

Hard to believe I can write this much one hand... thanks to everyone who has been emailing! Please let me know if I can can use them or any info sent in them on the Blog. No emails will be reprinted without author's permission.

Today's bits....

Bob Costigan, owner of Canada’s Horse of the Year ARRAVALE writes in from Dubai to say that the big filly is doing well…

Arravale is doing very well she had a nice holiday with the sun on her
back at Payson Park. She is about to start back into light training. We
will be planning an ambitious program for her this year with her major
goals being the Breeders Cup and were we to get an invite the Hong Kong
Cup in Dec. I should think she will start to show up on the work sheets
in 30 to 45 days. We hope to race her at Woodbine at least once.

GET OFF TO A FLYING START

Bob Costigan also emphasized that Canadians looking for a career in the racing/breeding industry should seriously consider Darley Flying Start, a two-year educational program that has a free tuition and a living allowance. The best horsepeople in the world will teach trainees all over the world the aspects of the breeding and racing industry. A super website tells you how to join and what to expect – http://www.darleyflyingstart.com

EMMA A.O.K

Emma-Jayne Wilson has a bruised leg but is good to go for this week at Fair Grounds. Woodbine’s leading rider fell off her mount who had broken down on Monday. Regular updates on Woodbine jockeys this winter can be found on the Woodbine website.

MORE MAIL !

I received a lovely e-mail from Tammy Balaz, president of Sam-Son Farms yesterday with regards to the death of her star gelding QUIET RESOLVE.
Be certain this was an emotional loss for the family who held Quiet Resolve close to their hearts. They did everything they could to keep the horse alive and happy living on the farm. Once again it is so cool to hear about racehorse owners and their dedication and loyalty to their horses once they are no longer able to race.

(Photo at right was borrowed through Google Images and horsessales.com)
Speaking of photos - QUIET RESOLVE is the fellow you see in giant-size on the wall over the bank machine on the 2nd floor of the Woodine grandstand, across from the Finish Line bar. So we can look at him everyday!

Sam-Son figures to have some real beauties again this year. Check out this one - DANCE WITH DOVES, by A.P. Indy and the first foal of champion DANCETHRUTHEDAWN, This 3yo filly worked 5 furlongs at Sa-Son in Ocala in 1:06 yesterday.

Also in the mail box was a letter from KRISTA KOCOT of KINGSGATE STUD in Thorold, Ontario (towards Niagara Falls). Krista stands the beautiful stallion LEGAL JOUSTING at her farm and you can view him as his first foals (yearlings of 2007) on her website http://www.kingsgatestud.com
Legal Jousting offers an intriguing pedigree line as he is the only stallion (at least according to my research) in North America by Indian Ridge, that super Euro-sire whose offspring include a couple of Breeders’ Cup Mile winners – Ridgewood Pearl and Domedriver, a Canadian International winner – Relaxed Gesture – Group 1 winning sprinter Compton Place and a total of 71 stakes winners.
Indian Ridge (Ahonoora – Hillbrow) was a Group 2 winning sprinter and Legal Jousting was a Group 3 placed miler who won an allowance race at Calder racecourse in Florida after arriving from Ireland. The bright bay was also 3rd in the Fort Marcy ‘Cap-G3 to Strategic Mission and Pine Dance as a 4yo.
Legal Jousting’s dam is the impeccably bred In Anticipation, by Sadler’s Wells out of Grade 1 winner Aptostar (by Fappiano). In Anticipation is the dam of Group 3 winner Irresistible Jewel and stakes winner Diamond Trim.
Interesting pedigree-cross for anyone looking for something classy and unique.

Raptors fans - the LEAFS aren't doing too bad either - 5 consecutive wins!
