Jambalaya, 'Rocket' spice up Saturday

Super racing all over today and Canada is well represented, even if some face the best horses the U. S. has to offer. INVASOR, MIESQUE'S APPROVAL, NOBIZ LIKE SHOBIZ??? Doesn't get any better!

Firstly, my nap times obviously caused me to miss the BUFFALO MAN note in the DRF yesterday. The top Canadian-bred on THOROUGHBLOG'S HOT CANADIAN-BRED RUNNERS LIST is sidelined by a cough is not in the Holy Bull S. today at Gulfstream. Look for the son of El Prado in the Risen Star S. on Feb. 10 at Fair Grounds or the Sam F. Davis at Tampa on Feb. 17.
(Note to self - ICE BRIDGE, who I wanted to bet yesterday at Fair Grounds, was scratched. Might never get turf at that track this winter...).

The colt's status on the Thoroughblog board could be in jeopardy today with Can.-bred stars like JAMBALAYA AND REATA'S ROCKET in Gulfstream stakes.

CANADIAN TURF H. (GR. 3)

JAMBALAYA, a top class grass runner in Canada, makes his 5yo debut in the 1 1/16 mile turf event. Eeks, he meets up with 'APPROVAL but that one is a deep closer, off the layoff and perhaps this is the time to try him. Jambalaya is a Langfuhr gelding trained by Catherine Day Phillips for Kingfield Farm. Also making a return in the race is Eugene Melnyk's talentef dude HOST.

And just who is REATA'S ROCKET? He's in the SWALE S. and is an Ontario-bred by Cape Canaveral - Selborne, by French Deputy, bred by Bob Anderson and Rod Ferguson. Colt is a nose off winning all 3 career starts, has an 89 Beyer Figure from a little stake win at Monmouth Park in Sept. but he has not raced since then.

Some other Canuck-breds to watch include possible Queen's Plate contenders SEASIDE LINKS and HIGH ACT in the 10th race at 9 furlongs, an allowance race.
First-timer INCLUDE THE DUDE, bred by Jim Sabiston, debuts on the GP card too. He's a son of Include out of Regent's Signet.

Kentucky-bred NOTTAWASAGA, owned by Ontario's Chiefswood Stable sure looks good in the Grade 3 Suwanee River 'Cap at 9 furlongs on the grass. The Deputy Minister filly won her season debut earlier in the meeting with an awesome turn of foot and her 96 Beyer Figure is the best last-race number in the race.

Yesterday at GP, the little brother of Canadian champion filly GOLD STRIKE, named KESTREL (by Shrike), won his maiden for $32K claiming in just his 2nd start. Kestrel was bred by Tom Dodds in Manitoba.

WANDO'S FIRST FOAL!

Canadian Triple Crown winner WANDO sired his first foal on Jan 25 when a youngster out of Tricky Vixen was born at Heaven Trees Farm in Kentucky.
Wando's buddy, MOBIL, already has foals on the ground this winter from his firsr crop too.

    Hey Voodoo,

I'm stickin with my friend TIME SQUARED in the Sham, I know he's maiden but the field doesn't look that strong. The lack of speed in the race would be a concern, however, as this guy is sort of a galloping type.

LOL @ "Wando's buddy" Truer words...

Besides, isn't that buddy the horse for which some dimwit got off of a Triple Crown winner to ride in the Plate?

Is it me or did Time Squared just never look into the bridle today? I wanted to see Liquidity win but I can't take anything away from the winner (and that pedigree!)... But all in all what a GREAT day of racing, huh?
