-30!! Woo Hoo
Good grief, snowbanks taller than me (okay, so that's not that tall) and incredibly frigid temps today, ouch.
Some thoughts during a quiet week, by the way, is anybody out there?
NOW THIS IS SCARY
Ray Paulick of the BLOOD-HORSE has a super recent column but what I want to point out is the second part of it under the title “Bad Rider”. This is one scary notion, idea, thought but the American Jockeys Guild.
Hey, no one says they don’t risk life and limb every day, they are true athletes but like other athletes, sometimes think the sport revolves around them. They mean 10-20% in a horse race, not as much as a backstretch person who looks after the horse. And the owners, well they are paying the staggering bills for them.
They are not bigger than the sport itself…check out Paulick’s commentary at

GULAS BACK!
Okay, I must have been sleeping during this but one of Woodbine’s most successful and popular jockeys, LAURIE GULAS, rode in her first race in about 8 years yesterday, finishing last on Flaming Creek in Gulfstream’s 2nd race.
Kudos to the HPI TV network for getting Gulas on air to talk about the comeback.
FURLOUGH?
Cheap meds? I’m still in a haze but watching the 1st at GP yesterday, Larry Collmus called heavy favourite PENSION by the name of FURLOUGH for the entire race. Yikes, I thought I had gone back in time, way back.
(Furlough, a graded stakes winner in the late 1990’s ,is Pension’s mum).
PEDIGREE BUFFS – ‘BULLET DEBUTS
There is not a hotter racing/breeding stable going than ADENA SPRINGS right now, just look at the THOROUGHBLOG Hot Canadian-bred list, many are owned or bred by Adena.
PERFECT BULLET, by red-hot El Prado out of Eclipse Award winning mare PERFECT STING debuts for the farm today at GP. The colt was training at Woodbine last fall for Brian Lynch and the colt is Kentucky-bred.
In that same race 6 is Mark Casse-trainee VALTRUS, with Pat Husbands on board. Husbands, who apparently has changed agents yet again, will be attending a hearing in Ontario regarding his skirmish with fellow jockey CONSTANT MONTPELLIER next month. Both were handed big money fines and suspensions.
MIGHT WANT TO WATCH...
INDIA'S 'greatest horse', MYSTICAL, in race in DUBAI just after lunch. Might be interesting, more interesting than shovelling my doorstep (love my neighbourhood kids who shovel the driveway!)
