DANCE SMARTLY JACKET AUCTION
on Thoroughblog - all monies to LONGRUN THBRED RETIREMENT!!
(check the COMMENTS SECTION FOR THE LATEST BIDS)
UPDATE
Wed. night - latest bid $300 - C.L.
AUCTION CLOSES SATURDAY AT NOON, sent a Comment or an email today to bid on the jacket.
THE POLLS ARE OPEN!!
Some 60+ voters across Canada received their passwords etc. for their on-line ballots today for voting for the SOVEREIGN AWARDS to be held Friday Dec. 12.
The Sovereigns, which have come under tremendous scrutiny in recent years with regards to eligibility rules and other factors, remain the top honour in Canada for horses and horsepeople despite the controversy.
The arguments for numerous categories are sure to be testy - HORSE OF THE YEAR is the big one that - according to THOROUGHBLOG'S POLL (see the poll at right on the sidebar) could go in 2 different directions.
From 38 VOTES cast on Thoroughblog, 15 are for RAHY'S ATTORNEY and 14 are for FATAL BULLET.
Now that's a horse race!
Here are some thoughts on the divisions (votes have to be by Monday at 5 p.m. AND racing this weekend CAN supposed to count for voting).
2-YEAR-OLD FILLY - Crap shoot - LARAGH? VAN LEAR ROSE? C KARMA? CAWAJA BEACH? RETRACEABLE? HIGH MIST?
2-YEAR-OLD COLT - Another headache - UTTERLY COOL, who raced on grass, MINE THAT BIRD, SOUTHERN EXCHANGE, ACTIVE DUTY?
3-YEAR-OLD COLT - NOT BOURBON may win this but some may vote for the sprinter FATAL BULLET.
3-YEAR-OLD FILLY - GINGER BREW won stakes in Florida and Toronto on turf, Poly, sprinting and going long...
OLDER MALE - Ugly category, PALLADIO? SPAGHETTI MOUSE? TRUE METROPOLITAN? Ugly.
OLDER FEMALE - BEAR NOW...nuff said.
TURF MALE -RAHY'S ATTORNEY won the Woodbine Mile.
TURF FEMALE - CALLWOOD DANCER maybe? SUGAR BAY? Very wide open.
SPRINTER - FATAL BULLET a cinch to win.
JOCKEY - JIM MCALENEY should win but PAT HUSBANDS could make it close. EURICO DA SILVA, JONO JONES, EMMA WILSON all deserve mention.
APPRENTICE JOCKEY - Weak, weak , weak.
TRAINER - Take your pick - some folks did some great work this year - ROGER ATTFIELD tied a record for Plate wins and had a big year, MARK CASSE won a lot of races, READE BAKER won tons out of town, SID ATTARD did some magic too.
BREEDER - ADENA SPRINGS looks strong since FATAL BULLET, HARLEM ROCKER and GINGER BREW won big races everywhere.
OWNER - How about the Bear? The BEAR won races south of the border and will have 2 CHAMPION RUNNERS THIS YEAR. You could also consider Tucci Stables, Charles Fipke (as breeder too perhaps), Stronach Stables.
These are only thoughts and do not reflect which way any votes will be cast.
Good luck to everyone!
WOODBINE WEDNESDAY NIGHT
What we saw was a sizzling fast Polytrack that was a bit kinder to closers although speed horses picked up a lot of 2nds and 3rds.
The feature of the night was an Ontario sired allowance for fillies and mares that went to stakes winner TENJECTORY (Trajectoyr-Pick Ten by Ten Gold Pots).
The 3yo filly rallied from off the slow pace but clearly loved the 9 furlong distance and won for the 3rd time in her 12th race. Eurico Da Silva won THREE RACES last night.
T V Stables own Trajectory who won the La Prevoyante Stakes on the grass in Sept.
A notable race on the card was the $8,00 claiming event, race 6 that almost went in TRACK RECORD TIME. The claimers scorched 5 furlongs in 56.94 and the winner was David Ross' invading PEACE ROCK (Slew City Slew), an 8yo gelding winning for the 14th time in his 52nd start.
Mike Pino trains and Pat Husbands picked up the win.
Peace Rock is 6 for 9 in 2008 and he was CLAIMED for the first time in FOUR YEARS and now the old guy will be with Willie Armata.
OTHER STUFF
Race 1 was the top half of a SEAN AND DORTHY FITZHENRY SANDWICH! Ontario bred CINEMA SHOW rallied wide off the 2nd turn and charged past front runner Battle Dance to win the 2yo maiden race for $40K claiming at 1 mile and 70 yards.
The Gulch-Falling Snow, Deputy Minister gal was making her 5th career start for breeders the Fitzhenrys and trainer Greg de Gannes. David Garcia rode.
The Fitzhenrys were back for race 8, the finale when favoured BAG OF HAMMERS won for $12,500 against 3yo's for his 3rd win in his 16th race. The Langfuhr gelding is trained by Jim Smith.
WHITE SPOT didn't corner very well in the 6 1/2 furlong 2nd race for 3yo's for $40K claiming but once straightened out in the stretch, he stormed from last place and blew past to win for 2nd career race in his 6th start.
The white-faced Trippi colt is owned by Jim and Alice Sapara and trained by Josie Carroll. He was 6 to 5 with Eurico Da Silva up.
It had been a long time since CRIMINAL POWER had done much of anything - he's so well bred for grass but had 7 chances on that surface and he had never won at 1 1/16 miles and, well that all changed last night when he was dropped in for $40,000 claiming, non-winners of 3.
Boasting an 83 Beyer from his latest when 5th in the prep for the Valedictory Stakes, the colt rallied 3 wide off the turn and held off Ghetto Superstar to win by 1/2 a length at 16 to 1.
The Signal Tap 4yo colt is now 22 for 22 in his career with both wins coming on Polytrack.
He is trained by Arthur Silvera for Jeff Moldofsky and Aubrey Bowman. Con Montpelier rode.
Race 4 - The Pick 4 kicked off with 2nd favourite ELUSIVE HOPE, 5yo mare, winning her maiden for Punch and Anne Kent's Hope Stock Farm which bred the Elusive Quality mare.
Trained by Alec Fehr, the mare had the highest last-race Beyer Figure inthe field but had to work hard in her rally to edge Divorsky. Jono Jones rode.
Trainer SCOTT FAIRLIE didn't need long to get DREAM'N DESIRE back in the winner's circle.
The 5yo mare by River Keen, had not won since early in 2007, had numerous trainers since then and had been racing in turf routes and at tracks in the U.S. Back at home on synthetic (she was 8-1-4-1 on the surface before yesterday) she rallied and edged LEGAL LOVE to win at 18 to 1 in the $9,500 claiming race at 6 furlongs. The owner is Robert Schiffhauer and Na Somsanith rode.

OFF TOPIC ( a bit)
While immersed in writing a chapter for a book on racehorses and how wonderful they can be for THERAPEUTIC RIDING. I could resist linking up this CBC REPORT on the awful people in CALEDON, ONTARIO.
No tonly did a neighbour(s) complain about this pony, but the city is actually considering removing the pony!
Go to CALEDON FOR A TOWN MEETING on DECEMBER 10 AND pray this little boy gets to keep his pony...
