SATURDAY SATURDAY

Freaky Friday was back again yesterday at Woodbine. Just two winners paid less than $21.00 and many were simply confusing.

EMILE RAMSAMMY rode 3 winners and trainer GREG DE GANNES won a pair.

One of Ramsammy’s winners, STORM CODE, a Kentucky-bred by High Yield (same sire as Alezzandro) out of the Lost Code mare Wakita, scorched 5 furlongs in :58 to win his debut at the maiden allowance level in race 6. The Camilla Farms colt is trained by Pat Parente. He had slow workout times dating back to April, was a $7,700 yearling purchase but ran a 71 Beyer Figure over the fast Polytrack surface.

KNOB HILL STABLES’ Eleftheria won her 3rd race in her 5th start of 2007, all with Danny David riding, when she took the $19,000 claiming race, the 2nd event of the day. She is an Ontario-bred by Megas Vukefalos out of Parkview Hills by Iskandar Elakbar.

BLONDE WISDOM came out of a slumber to win the 9 furlong 3rd race for owner/trainer Nick DeToro. The mare had raced 5 times this year with a 2nd and a 3rd but was coming off a dull outing and a 58 Beyer Figure. She won the $62,500 allowance/opt. claimer as the longshot shot on the board in the 6 horse field – 12 to 1.

THE QUEEN’S STAMP won her 2nd consecutive race, this time with an 84 Beyer Figure, when she won for the 2nd time in her 4th outing. It was an $80,000 allowance/opt. claiming race at 7 furlongs on the turf. She is a homebred by Prized out of Native Rights, owned and bred by Bill Sorokolit.

Turf to Polytrack worked in the finale when 10 to 1 shot COURTNEY BAY won for $40,000 claiming (he was dropping from allowance races). It was the Kentucky-bred’s 3rd attempt on Polytrack and first this season for Oxbridge Farm and trainer Peter Berringer.

BABY DAY

Two year olds are the talk of the day at Woodbine today.

The ONTARIO DEBUTANTE features the rapid DANCING ALLSTAR (Millennium Allstar), beaten a tiny nose in the Colin Stakes to the boys last out but winner of the My Dear and a maiden race before that with ease and the undefeated POCO UNO (E. Dubai). Jim McAleney has the ride on Dancing Allstar for the first time. There is a Vindication (top freshman sire) offspring in the race too – MISS VAN GOGH, who figures to be a price play for the exotics.

Race 4 is a beauty – like a stakes race. The maiden allowance at 7 furlongs for colts features last year’s highest priced yearling in Canada – BRODERICK (Hold That Tiger), who was 3r din his debut.

Also in the race are a pair of colts by A.P. Indy – Sam-Son’s CATCH THE LUCK, a homebred out of champion Catch the Ring and a ½ brother to champion Catch the Thrill, and FINAL LAP, a Bill Farish, Skara Glen, G. Prussin, $500,000 2yo purchase who is out of Grade 3 winner Golden Sonata.

Stronach Stables’ KING’S MISSILE, who has worked in company with a 2yo who has already won his debut at the meeting, is a Kentucky bred by Golden Missile.

Jen, don't you have to break you maiden at least to look like a true Stakes horse, or at least run a Beyer over 62 unlike the bunch in the 4th. Aside from the two well bred A.P. Indy's who show so so works for their debut, it looks like a common bunch (for Woodbine)of 2 year olds to me.

How about old Strizzi winning off an 11 month layoff at Laurel Park for Justin J. Nixon? He was 2nd to Mobil in the Toronto Cup, and finished in front of Silver Tree in the Charlie Barley as a 3yo.

Not too sure what the stewards are up to these days, but I think they should all go and get an eye examination.

In the ninth today La Salle Glory was disqualified and placed 6th. I have watched the race over 6 times and I can't see the infraction.

Yet last month a horse lugged in so badly it drove Patrick Husbands mount almost into the rail.
His horse fell and then Jono Jone's mount also fell. I believe one horse had to be distroyed and Jono was hurt. Yet the horse who caused the spill was not disqualified and stayed up as the winner.

    GO FIGURE !!!!
