HI MOM!

Street Sounds pops a big Beyer Figure, Dave, Frank and Bob won the stake yesterday at Woodbine, Plate favourite Twilight Meteor worked at Saratoga and Woodbine racing is interesting and fun.
Come out to the track with Mom today!

WOODBINE SATURDAY

QUITE A FINISH

(The recap of yesterday‘s New Providence Stakes win was posted last evening – see below. Dave the Knave, bred by Ron and Janet Motz, ran an 89 Beyer Figure in that win – his season debut)

Owner BILL DIAMANT and trainer PHIL GRACEY started 2007 off with a bang as Diamant’s homebred BOLD FINISH strolled away to an allowance win (first level) in yesterday’s 8th race.

It was the first start of the season for Diamant, who has raced graded stakes winner Sauvage and stakes winner Prince of Style, as well as for Gracey.

Bold Finish (Bold Executive-Shar Dawn Aye, Regal Intention) enjoyed a perfect trip behind a pace duel and then took off to win by open lengths in 1:46 2/5 – an 83 Beyer Figure.

It was the 3rd win in 18 starts -$165,000 plus – for Bold Finish, who is also know as BOZO.

The rest of Woodbine’s races yesterday were won mainly by the usual suspects this spring.

SID ATTARD bagged three wins (there sure seem to be a lot of Sid and Attard family fans writing in to THOROUGHBLOG but surely other things interest you about the game?).

Sid’s wins came with OYE GAVAULT (Kentucky bred who won a maiden race for RPW Corp., CAPTAIN RAUCOUS, a New York bred 3yo claimer, and GRAY JET, a Kentucky bred who won a maiden race. The latter two were owned by Tucci Stable.

Kevin Attard had Knob Hill Stables’ KLISSURA (Golden Missile-Zahara, Storm Cat) well prepared off a long layoff to win a maiden allowance race with an 80 Beyer Figure.

ABRAHAM KATYRAN also kept a roll going with 2 wins – CHA CHA SPEED for $9,500 claiming in the 9th and the recently claimed SLEW OF THE NIGHT for $20,000. The latter is a stakes winner of over $300,000.

Canadian-bred SPIN MOVE won her second career start in a 2yo filly maiden allowance yesterday for Woodford Racing and trainer Mark Casse. She is by Mutakkdim out of the Bold Ruckus mare Body Moves.

Jockey Simon Husbands won a pair of races to get his season on a roll.

SOUNDS OF THE STREET

Canadian-bred wrap

Beaumont Stakes winning Canadian-bred STREET SOUNDS won the Hilltop Stakes on the Pimlico grass course yesterday for Hidden Creek Farm and trainer Michael Matz.

Her Beyer Figure was a 94.

The Street Cry-Rare Opportunity filly, who beat Bill Sorokolit’s Palace Pier in the Beaumont at Keeneland, led all the way through the one-mile and won by 5 ½ lengths.

She was supplemented to the June 10 Woodbine Oaks.

DAAHER (Awesome Again-Irish Cherry, Irish Open), bred in Ontario by Yvonne Schwabe and her mom Dagmar, won his maiden at Belmont Park yesterday in just hiss second start.

The Shadwell Farms colt won by 3 ¼ lengths at 1 1/16 miles and ran a super 89 Beyer Figure.

He is not currently Canadian Triple Crown eligible.

SLAM BAMMY was a determined second in the Decathalon Stakes at Monmouth yesterday, 2 lengths behind Joey P, who shattered the track record for 5 ½ furlongs. The time was 1:01 4/5.

Slam Bammy is by Grand Slam from Miss Heidi.

REATA’S ROCKET, supplemented to the Queen’s Plate, had a somewhat messy trip in the $300,000 Lone Star Derby last night. The Cape Canaveral 3-year-old colt broke very awkwardly, was shut off and then was 4 and 5 wide all the way around the track. He finished 7th but was only beaten 6 ½ lengths.

LANGBURG (Langfuhr-Marienburg, Conquistador Cielo) won an allowance race on the Pimlico grass yesterday for Blackwoods Stable and trainer Tom Voss.

HENDRIE FAMILY REMEMBERED

Today’s Grade 3 Hendrie Stakes at Woodbine honours one of the founding families of Canadian racing.

You can still see the Hendrie colours in action through horses raced by Georgdie Hendrie.

The filly and mare sprint stake (6 ½ furlongs) has lured Polytrack freak MARY DELANEY from the United States. She figures to be tough to beat but Kinghaven Farms’ SEDUCTIVELY, fresh off the Whimsical win, will be dangerous.

Today’s Connaught Cup prep came off the grass but has lured the interesting JADER (Monashee Mountain), Canadian-bred star SOUL REBEL and old timers ORGAN GRINDER and SHOAL WATER.

The juvenile race (the 5th) is a mixed bag of American and Canadian-breds. The Sapara family’s homebred MCNUTT (Tale of the Cat) will be well backed and their 2yo’s have raced well this spring.

Robert Costigan’s DRUIDS MOUND, a Smart Strike gelding who trained in Florida all winter, is another to look at.
