Folks in 5280 Stable, which also races horses at Woodbine, celebrated last week when ASTAIRE ('Fred') won his maiden at Turfway Park. The gelding was making just his 2nd start since the group bought him at the Keeneland Nov. Sale.

BILL GRAHAM (Windhaven) was in action again at the sale (see yesterday’s post) buying SWITCH LANES for $140,000. The Deerhound mare (1999) won 12 races and $450,000 including a litany of stakes races. She is carrying her first foal by Henny Hughes.
He also paid $130,000 for EMANATING, a Cox’s Ridge mare, graded stakes placed and a ½ sister to grade 1 winner GOLD FEVER. She has one winning foal to race and is in foal to STRONG HOPE.
SHYMAN FARMS bought TIME TO MEET, a stakes winning General Meeting mare in foal to Aldebaran for $4,000.
DR. BRIAN VAN AREM (T and T Farm) paid $22,000 for GRAPEVINE,, an Irish bred mare who was stakes placed and is by Sadler’s Wells. She is in foal to El Corredor. Van Arem also paid $32,000 for LUXURIOUSLY, a
Board says races can move, if necessary
California Horse Racing Board votes to clear the way for Santa Anita to move races to Hollywood Park, but track president doesn't think that's going to happen.

The racing board's vote, which was conducted via a special teleconference hookup, approved an amendment to the horse racing license of the Los Angeles Turf Club, which operates Santa Anita.
This came a day after the track had canceled racing for a third straight day because of heavy rains and the ongoing drainage problem with the new synthetic Cushion Track. However, racing is scheduled to resume Thursday on the Cushion Track, weather permitting.
After Tuesday's vote, Charles said: "Right now we don't anticipate having to use this amendment to our application. We believe we're going to be coming forward with a contingency strategy to get us through the rest of the meeting."
Charles said he couldn't discuss details of that strategy, but he did reiterate that one option would be replacing the Cushion Track with a traditional dirt track. And he again said the number of lost race days during installation would be minimal.
Charles said he probably would have an announcement Thursday detailing the track's plan after he meets with trainers, owners and other horsemen.
